Hispano Suiza was a Spanish company of luxury and racing automobiles, also dedicated to the design and manufacture of aviation engines, military vehicles, and weapons. It was founded in Barcelona in 1904 by Mr Damián Mateu and the Swiss engineer Mr Marc Birkigt, and considered by many of the time to be superior to even Rolls Royce
The Hispano Suiza logo contains a host of references to the brand’s proud history. Originally, the company was identified by its stork-in-flight emblem, a reference to the company’s prowess in producing aero engines in the early 1900’s
Between 1904 and 1946, the company built more than 50,000 aircraft engines – the stork represents speed and flight. Later, the logo developed to incorporate the stork’s wings set against the Spanish and Swiss flags, in recognition of the company’s founders – the Spaniard Damián Mateu and Swiss Marc Birkigt
Today, the new Hispano Suiza logo has been refined to reflect the clean lines and technological superiority of the latest generation of the company’s vehicles. Hispano Suiza is a proud Spanish car brand owned by four generations of the Suqué Mateu family. Now reborn, the company has created the Carmen, which pioneers the ‘hyperlux’ segment through a unique blend of timeless design, exacting luxury, painstaking craftsmanship and scrupulous attention to technical and engineering details
